Ben agreed to drive one of the two church vans that will be filled with high school-age students to Olivet Nazarene University this week (Thursday-Saturday) for an event that I don't really know a whole lot about. He has really found his niche working with the kids; he loves them and they love him. I'm working with preschool and Kindergarten age now; maybe I should move up too.
It's been a rough week. On Thursday, Mom had to have her 13-year-old mutt Henry put down. His health was rapidly deteriorating, and she finally came to the conclusion that quality of life over quantity of life was better. Then, the next day, two of the cats got out. Mona came back pretty much instantly but we still haven't been able to locate Kenny. We are hoping he comes back unscathed but it's not looking likely, at this point.
Day at the Capitol was really fun, though. I think Allyson learned a lot about leadership and making friends. Plus she got to learn CPR via a cool computer program (she straight-up killed the simulated guy, though, so she has some work to do). And she got to see crawfish, try on scuba gear and old Girl Scout uniforms, and get up close and personal with a bomb robot. The last one was particularly fascinating to her, as my youngest brother is in the Army as an EOD specialist. We had some free time and were going to tour Abraham Lincoln's house but we weren't able to get in until after the expo had already started.
Things outside of work are calming down but now I"m picking up close to full-time hours. I'm tired just thinking of it.
