In which Kris beats a dead horse until it springs back to life

I have a short list of phrases that drive me absolutely nuts:

  • It is what it is
  • I can't find it (usually said after approximately four seconds of looking)
  • God doesn't give me anything He doesn't think I can't handle
Dude.

He does too.

And that's okay.

Listen, these people that say that are probably the same people that only pray when things are going well. They thank God for their blessings but forget to turn to Him in hard times.

That's why God puts us through sometimes difficult situations: So we can turn to Him all the time, not just when it's convenient for us.

I saw a hokey church sign once that said, "God wants full custody, not just weekend visits." There's truth to that, though.  He doesn't just want us to pop in once in awhile, say thank you, and leave. He wants a constant relationship.

We need to turn to God when things are good, sure. But we also need to turn to Him when things are difficult.

Busy night at work? Talk to God. Family member ill? Talk to God. New puppy peed in the house even if you took her outside three times in a 45-minute span? Talk to God. Car and dryer break down on the same day? Look at you, you have a car and a dryer. Talk to God.

Sometimes you pray for an answer and don't get one. I am still trying to wrap my head around why that happens. But I think it's because God has a plan and maybe the answer you personally are looking for doesn't fit into it.

Sometimes you pray for an answer and get one, but it isn't the one you wanted. See above.

Sometimes you pray for an answer, and the answer you get is even better than the one you thought you wanted. That's God's plan for you. His plans and timing for you are perfect.

Everybody always throws out Jeremiah 29:11 here. But it's true, you guys. He has plans for us, plans for a great future with Him. If we'd listen to what He has to say, we'd see that. Not that I'm always great at that.

Turn to God in every situation. Not just the bad ones. He wants a relationship with you. Go have one.
