Allyson has taken an interest in our toilet lately. She likes to flush it. She likes to close the lid. She especially likes to wave bye-bye to whatever we're flushing.
So yesterday, I broke down and bougt her a potty chair. http://www.amazon.com/Safety-1st-Nature-Eco-friendly-Potty/dp/B0039YP11C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1272837621&sr=8-4 That potty chair. It was the right price, and I really didn't think I needed to buy anything fancy.
Problem: How the heck do I potty-train?!
Fortunately, I remembered my mother-in-law telling me about how she potty-trained Ben's sister. Every time she went to the bathroom, Kerri went with her. Everytime she sat on the toilet, Kerri was seated on the potty chair. Eventually Kerri figured it out.
So, tonight, I tried this. I stripped Allyson of her pants and diaper, took her into the bathroom, and sat her on the potty chair. She stood up, closed the lid, and clapped. Uh...
I re-opened it, sat her back down, and said: "Can you go potty for Mommy?"
"Okay." She sat there for a minute, then got back up and removed the basin thing in the center.
I took the basin thing away, replaced it, and tried this: "Ally, can you show Mommy how you go potty?" And she sat down on the potty seat. If I wasn't already going to the bathroom I probably would have wet my pants.
She didn't pee, of course, but at least she knows what to do! And knowing, as the old adage goes, is half the battle.
Potty talk aside, she now recognizes four characters from Sesame Street: "Bi Boo" (Big Bird), "Ookie" (Cookie Monster), "ELMO!!!" (uh, Elmo), and "Abby!" (Abby Cadabby, who I admit is growing on me).
